New post by Kensley

He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less. John 3:30 "He must become greater… I must become less."" HE must be greater. Who is He? He is (obviously) God! What does this verse mean by "He must become greater?" The Bible is to be taken literally. God did not mean for us all to search through verses ripping them apart just to understand them. The Bible is written for us to understand, know, and love, and we do not need to 'search' for a hidden meaning. The meaning is right there! Take it literally. But going back to this specific verse, what does it mean when we say that God must become greater? Greater than what, exactly? It means that God must become superior to all other things in our life. ALL other things. We cannot 'worship' other things more than we worship God. When we run into a life problem, we can't desire the advice of our friend more than the advice of God. We should want to talk to God more than any other person here. We should desire God more than any thing else in our life. HE should be the One we are seeking to please and the ONE we are seeking to follow. What does "I must become less and less" mean? Well it is pretty obvious…… We must acknowledge the fact that we are inferior to God and realize that we must want what HE desires, more than our own selfish wants. For example… You might have had dreams of becoming a congressman since you were 12 years old. You pursue everything possible to get you closer to that goal. You hang out at the capital, you are constantly reading books on politics and history, you shadow politicians, etc. Well… let's just say God has something different in mind. What if God wants you to be a doctor? What would you do? You are a junior in high school now and you have set up your whole college pathway to fit your hopes and dreams of working in government… but then God tells you He wants you to be a doctor… what do you do? Well, the most realistic thing that the world would tell you to do would be to stick with the path that you are on. You could use your work in government to further the kingdom of God.. and there are a lot of people working for the US government that need to be introduced to Christ… so don't worry about it. The Biblical God-honoring thing to do would be to say to God "Okay! I know nothing about the world of medicine.. but if this is what you want me to do, then I'm on board! I will trust you." That could sound a little bit crazy… but you know, God is worth giving up your desires and dreams for. Ultimately, your dreams should be HIS dreams. The world may call you stupid.. but it would be stupid not to listen. In order to make God greater and for you to become less and less, you must drop what you are doing and pursue what He is pointing you towards. He has a plan! Become less and fully rely on God. If you don't have a clue about what God is calling you to, trust Him. Lean on Him. If you put your complete trust in Him, He will honor that and be faithful. All things work for the good of those who love God and God does not fail those whose follow Him. Rid yourself of YOU… and fill yourself with Him. Let Him become greater…. you become less. Be God-centered instead of self-centered.
